Ingo Metzmacher

As a conductor of operas and orchestras, as a festival director or author of books: through his numerous activities Ingo Metzmacher has become a leading advocate of contemporary music of the 20th and 21st centuries. To make the new sound familiar and to make the familiar sound new has been his focus since the beginning of his career.

Ingo Metzmacher has been General Music Director of the Hamburg State Opera, Chief Conductor of the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam as well as Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin. In 2016 he was appointed Artistic Director of the Hanover-based multidisciplinary arts festival KunstFestSpiele Herrenhausen. The next edition of the festival will take place from 18 May to 3 June 2018.

Ingo Metzmacher is frequently invited to work with some of the world's leading orchestras and opera houses and is author of two books, Keine Angst vor neuen Tönen and Vorhang auf! Oper entdecken und erleben.
